This website is built by an enthusiastic learner using a modernised mix of Bootstrap 5, a handful of older structural ideas carried forward intentionally, and a growing collection of custom components, mostly written in PHP.
Over time, the focus has shifted away from frameworks as solutions and toward frameworks as scaffolding—used where helpful, ignored where unnecessary, and overridden when clarity or typography demands it.
I began building this site as a student in Denver, Colorado around 2010. Fast forward to February 2025, and I now live and work in London, UK. The site has been rebuilt, revised, simplified, and occasionally broken more times than I can count.
Special thanks to Jessica Hische and her project Don’t Fear the Internet, which encouraged me to learn how the web actually works and to build this site (mostly) from scratch rather than rely entirely on templates.
The site is set primarily in Crimson Pro, designed by Sebastian Kosch and served via Google Fonts. It is “a font family for book production in the tradition of beautiful oldstyle typefaces,” complete with small caps, oldstyle figures, and other typographic niceties that reward slow reading.
For fellow dorks and the incurably curious, ongoing changes are documented in the ChangeLog and reflected more deliberately in the evolving Design System.
